I Like It
Is it possible to “like” something you haven’t seen? On the basis that I decided that I liked Anish Kapoor’s Orbit Tower (the twisted metal sculpture in the London 2012 Olympic Park) without even seeing a picture of the model I have to say yes. My reasoning at the time was that anything that could cause as much furore in such a short space of time must have something about it. I have since seen pictures and I have not changed my mind, I still like it.
On the other hand I don’t like auto likes, and knew I didn’t like them before I knew they existed, if that’s possible. For the uninitiated an auto like is generated by a piece of software but appears at the bottom of your post as a normal like, as if the person in question had visited, read and enjoyed your post!
So what do I do about these “auto likes” well mostly I ignore them. Why then am I bothering to write this post? When a recent post got 3 likes within 20mins of publishing my interest was raised I then noted that the post had not been viewed and my interest was piqued.
I’m pretty confident I know which are real “likes” thanks to you all.
I suppose being liked by a computer (software) may be better than not being liked at all and defiantly better than being “auto hated” but if anyone could tell me what this action adds to blogging or the existence of humanity I would be most grateful? Conversely if I’ve got this all wrong and the dashboard has a lag in reporting views then please put me in the picture, or simply auto unlike me.
